#0 Surface Prep Tool (3SEG Oval)

The #0 Prep Tool — also called the 3SEG Oval Tool — is a metal-bond surface prep tool for concrete that removes adhesives, thin-sets, and epoxy coatings (under 4mm) and levels surface inequalities of about ±4mm. Its oval, three-segment design leaves a clean, consistent profile that resembles 80-grit sandpaper — a great prepped surface to grind or coat over. It mounts on any Prep/Master® machine with the patented EG attachment system.

0 Surface Prep Tool

What It Removes

  • Carpet glue, mastic, and adhesives
  • Thin-set and mortar residue
  • Epoxy coatings up to ~4mm thick
  • Surface inequalities/high spots of about ±4mm

Key Details

  • Metal-bond, 3-segment oval design
  • Leaves a consistent 80-grit-sandpaper profile (cleaner than the rougher #00 prep tool)
  • Patented EG attachment for Prep/Master® machines
  • Dry use only — run with dust collection (required)
  • For concrete only — not for terrazzo, marble, or granite
  • Long life — approximately 30,000 SF

#0 vs. #00 — Which Prep Tool?

Both remove adhesives, thin-set, and epoxy coatings under 4mm and level ±4mm, but they leave different profiles:

  • #0 (3SEG Oval) — metal-bond; leaves a cleaner, consistent 80-grit profile
  • #00 — combination PCD/metal-bond, directional; leaves a rougher profile with ~1mm grooves for heavier removal

Tool Count by Machine

  • Prep/Master 2807/2818 — 6 pieces
  • Prep/Master 2420/2418 — 12 pieces
  • Prep/Master 3030/3038 — 12 pieces
  • Prep/Master 4430/4438 — 24 pieces

Where It Fits in the Process

Before you run a polishing system, the floor needs to be clean and bare. If it has coatings or adhesives, the #0 Surface Prep Tool gets it there — it’s “step zero,” the prep that makes everything after it work. (A clean, bare floor can skip straight to grinding.) It’s the prep step called for by our CLC, EGT, and PLP diamond systems.

For super fast surface prep that leaves a rougher profile, use the #00 Surface Prep Tool!
