TPS Diamond System – Terrazzo Polishing – Wet Process

EG Prep Tools are STI’s coating and adhesive removal tooling — built on the patented EG attachment system to strip coatings, glue, mastic, thin-set, and epoxy off concrete and take a floor down to clean, bare concrete before grinding or polishing. Whatever’s on your floor, there’s an EG prep tool to remove it.

How the TPS System Works

The TPS System runs in a defined sequence — dry, then grout, then wet:

  • Steps #1–#3 (dry) — metal-bond tools grind the terrazzo and expose the aggregate (#1 is the aggressive “first cut”)
  • Step #3.5 — Grout Pan — fill pinholes with epoxy and marble flour, then let cure (8+ hours)
  • Steps #4–#7 (wet) — resin-bond tools refine and polish to a high-gloss finish

Running the tools in order is what delivers a consistent, even terrazzo polish.

Built for Epoxy Terrazzo

TPS is engineered specifically for new epoxy terrazzo — the #1 tool is the aggressive first-cut that exposes the aggregate, and the system carries the floor through grouting and polishing from there. (Polishing concrete instead? See our CLC, EGT, and PLP systems.)

What’s in the System

  • #1, #2 & #3 — metal-bond grinding tools (EG attachment), dry; long life (#2 & #3 ~30,000 SF each)
  • #3.5 Grout Pan — patent-pending stainless steel grout pan (run with epoxy + marble flour)
  • #4–#7 — resin-bond polishing tools, orange Velcro, wet; ~15,000 SF life each

TPS #1

This is a metal bond tool painted orange that has pictured face design and can be clearly identified by the number on back as “#1.” This tool features the patented EG attachment system. The tool is run dry.

  • Approximate life of #1 is 12,000 SF (1,200 M2) for all P/M Machines except 4430. (P/M Machine 4430 life expectancy is 15,500 SF (1,600 M2). This tool is the first cut tool for Epoxy Terrazzo rough cut step. The #1 TPS tool life will be variable based upon Epoxy Terrazzo mixture components, consistency of epoxy terrazzo placement, and adequate dust collection.

TPS #2

This is a metal bond tool painted orange that has pictured face design and can be clearly identified by the number on back as “#2.” This tool features the patented EG attachment system. The tool is run dry.

  • Approximate life of #2 is 30,000 SF (3,000 M2) for all P/M Machines except 4430. (P/M Machine 4430 life expectancy is 40,000 SF (4,000 M2).)

TPS #3

This is a metal bond tool painted orange that has pictured face design and can be clearly identified by the number on back as “#3.” This tool features the patented EG attachment system. The tool is run dry.

  • Approximate life of #3 is 30,000 SF (3,000 M2) for all P/M Machines except 4430. (P/M Machine 4430 life expectancy is 40,000 SF (4,000 M2).)

TPS #3.5 (Grout Pan)

Grout Pan #3.5 is a patent pending stainless steel tool that has the pictured face design and can be clearly identified by the stamping on back as “#3.5.” This tool features orange Velcro backing. The tool is run using epoxy and marble flour (calcium carbonate powder). (See “Execution” section in TDS for important details of how to use properly.)

  • Approximate life of #3.5 is 10,000 SF (1,000 M2)

TPS #4

This is a resin bonded tool that has the pictured face design and can be clearly identified by the number on back as “#4.” This tool features orange Velcro backing. The tool is run wet.

  • Approximate life of #4 is 15,000 SF (1,500 M2) for all P/M Machines except 4430. (P/M Machine 4430 life expectancy is 20,000 SF (2,000 M2).)

TPS #5, #6, & #7

These are resin bonded tools that have the pictured face design and can be clearly identified by the numbers on back as “#5,” “#6,” & “#7.” These tools feature orange Velcro backing. The tools are run wet.

  • Approximate life of #5, #6 & #7 are 15,000 SF (1,500 M2) for all P/M Machines except 4430. (P/M Machine 4430 life expectancy is 20,000 SF (2,000 M2).)

Works With Every Prep/Master Machine

  • Prep/Master 2807/2818 — 6 pieces
  • Prep/Master 2420/2418 — 12 pieces
  • Prep/Master 3030/3038 — 12 pieces
  • Prep/Master 4430/4438 — 24 pieces

Important Notes

  • For new epoxy terrazzo (at least 8 hours old)
  • A 100 SF mock-up is recommended before any full job
  • The #1 first-cut tool must reach full aggregate exposure before moving to finer steps
  • Grout pans run slow — 15Hz (electric) / 2100 RPM (propane) only, never above 250 RPM tool speed

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s TPS for? Grinding and polishing new epoxy terrazzo floors — from rough cut through grout to a high-gloss polish.

Is it wet or dry? Both, in sequence — dry for steps #1–#3, grout at #3.5, wet for #4–#7.

What machines? Any Prep/Master model; tool count varies by size.
